Collaboration: Four Corners- Southwest

In the Spring of 2013, the ladies of Southerly Gold travelled to Cameron Parish to photograph area residents’ connection to the land. Part of a grander two-year project of photographing landscapes in each of the 4 corners of the state of Louisiana, the Southwest corner was the first installment.

The arc of this installment documents intergenerational connection to particular coming-of-age locations in rural Louisiana. How are teenage traditions and culture passed from one generation to another? How do these different generations use the same space in similar ways, but in different eras?

With the help of Hackberry native Brett LaBauve and his mother Missy, we photographed 6 different Cameron Parish locations that hold particular notstalgia and purpose for sons and daughters, fathers and mothers, grandfathers and grandmothers.

In each location, we would work together to compose, focus, and shoot each large format image. This installment includes found items from each location, as well as recorded audio of Brett and Missy talking about each location.

More info, recollections, maps, transcriptions, etc to come with final printed book of project.
