Elemental is an unguided, long distance photographic collaboration between two female photographers, focusing on and alternately exhibited in the City of New Orleans. Arranged and documented by Aubrey Dawne Edwards
The project Elemental pairs two working female photographers living in different parts of the United States. They have never met. Over the course of 3 months, they collaborate via email to each create 3 images under the shared theme of Water, Earth, Air, or Fire. One year, 8 photographers, 4 collaborations.
Created images are displayed outdoors in New Orleans on the Seasonal Equinox. Each element pairing is displayed in a different fashion (atune to the theme) outside the walls of a gallery or institution. Photographs are showcased in a location and manner that brings contemporary photography to an audience that may not normally have access to it. The work is on exhibit for 24 hours only, it is ephemeral as the element itself.
